The WEDO Story
You can learn a lot about a company from its origin story and boy, do we have a story.
There aren’t a lot of Digital Marketers who can say they were there back in the dimdarks of the late 1990s. In fact, when you think of Digital Marketing, SEO Optimization, and SEO Blogging, you might first think about younger folks. GenXers or crack Millenials talking big ideas over avocado toast.
Well. Meet the most overlooked Gen in Digital Marketing: GenJones.
We were there as programming languages were being developed in the seventies. We started programming on computer punch and scratch cards. We studied Fortran. We had a Commodore 64. We were writing websites in 1996.
Then, there was Network Marketing News. Designed as an objective voice in the nascent MLM industry, Network Marketing News grew to tens of thousands of followers. We kinda went viral before that was even a thing.
But then the bottom dropped out.
Suddenly our website traffic dropped about 75%. We had to react and fast.
So, we’ve been grappling with Google algorithm releases since 2003 when we bounced back from that traffic drop. We now call these phenomena The Ground Shifting. If you want to hear the whole story, ask Steve.
What did we learn as the very nature of digital marketing changed again and again?
We learned how to pivot. We learned how to embrace change. We learned that new tech is best deployed with an understanding of basic marketing principles.
We learned that with a solid marketing foundation (coupled with being light on our feet), we could handle any earthquake…including Google releases or pandemics. Our marketing approach and structure is solid enough to build business practically anywhere, anytime.
Over the years, the WE DO team split, reengaged, and split again as we had children, dealt with family pressures, and followed our passion projects. Decades in the making and leaving growth businesses in our wake, the WE DO team has been all over the internet.
